this is not a vacation.

I took this week off so we could spend some quality time together. This is the first time I've been off for a long period of time since I took the new position. It's not exactly a vacation. It's a good time to catch up on laundry, housework, quality time with the kids, and maybe do some scrapbooking. I am trying to scrap some old photos. I don't care how ugly they are. These were taken way before I discovered red eye reduction and Photoshop. Oh, well. They are at least on a page.

I have been rummaging through old papers and vow to use them up. Old papers for old photos. Dammit.

someone has a crush on my boy.

Fourteen-year-olds are a different breed. Especially the male kind. Jeff Junior has lots to learn about the opposite sex. He does not understand when a girl likes him, the little looks, the flirting. He does not know how to act. He does not know how to speak. When a girl comes around, he lays like broccolli. He does not understand the subtle hints that a girl has been sending him. For a lack of a better word, he is DUH. For the past couple of weeks, this little strawberry shortcake named Samantha (of course, she had to have red hair) has come up to Jeff to ask him about homework and to make small talk after church. Junior, enlightened as he is with his one word responses, leaves her standing there with her mouth hanging open. This boy needs to learn a lot from his stud of a father, Jeff Senior, who is never short on anything to say.

  • Senior:  Jeff, you can't just leave the girl standing there. Talk to her. Say something next time.
  • Junior: I don't know what to say.
  • Senior: This is what I do. I say "Hi. How are you?" And then...I wait for a response.
  • Junior: (laughter)

Hey, it worked for me. :)

together again.

Finished this today. Prepunched circles do come in handy. No new supplies on this page. I'm doing pretty good on using up my supplies.

to you.

I was home sick today and did not get up until ten o'clock. This is a rare event for me. I hate sleeping in because I feel like I waste the day away. I was feeling much better by the end of the day though and snuck in a simple card.

guess who's eleven.

Abby cake Abby has arrived and we had a little get together with family this weekend to celebrate her 11th birthday. She is almost as tall as me and wears a size 8 women's shoe! Holy crap. Just last year she could wear my size 6.5 shoes. The little girl is growing up.

We made that cake this weekend. It's my very first cake. Chocolate with cream cheese frosting. Any tips on how to prevent it from looking lopsided?

Do you think it's missing any sprinkles? :)
